COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
In Luke 10, Jesus articulates a vision for the work and mission of the Church—one that sends the Church out into the world as apostles—to heal, to bring about reconciliation, to cultivate peace, and to proclaim the Kingdom of God.
Naturally, this journey begins on our Cathedral campus; however, to fully realize Jesus' vision we must go out into the community and live out our baptism by proclaiming by word and example the Good News of God in Christ... seeking and serving Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as our self... striving for justice and peace among all people, and respecting the dignity of every human being.

It is beyond the walls of our Cathedral campus where we will discover the Loving, Liberating and Life-giving spirit of God that will transform our community; and, thus, transform us into the people God is calling us to be!

Here are some ways St. James is beginning to engage with our community--in Fresno, throughout the Central Valley, and beyond.
THE PILGRIMAGE OF HOPE
A 200+ mile journey on foot to Sacramento to raise awareness of the plight of our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters.
FAITH IN THE VALLEY
In partnership with FIV, we are working to create a better future for the Central Valley. A future in which everyone is included, treated as sacred, has a chance to thrive and live a healthy, decent life.
PUBLIC ADVOCACY
Advocating for our community in public arenas, especially addressing issues like homelessness, poverty, discrimination, gun violence, racism, immigration rights, and health care.
LGBTQ RIGHTS
Respecting the dignity of all people means supporting them to live fully, self confidently and responsibly just as the God who made them and loves them created them to be.
ENDING GUN VIOLENCE
We must rid our world of the sin of gun violence--for our children and our children's children. We are called to be instruments of peace to this broken world.
